Happy Birthday Constantin Brancusi!! Rumanian born sculptor in 1876, Brancusi was an abstract artist, sometimes creating just one fine, highly polished shape. As a child he showed a love for carving, beginning with farm tools. He began his study of sculpture at the Bucharest School of Fine Arts and then traveled to Paris where he remained. Auguste Rodin was a mentor, but he left his studio after a short time, stating: “Nothing can grow under big trees”. His work is said to be as important to modern sculpture as Picasso’s was to modern painting. His Kiss series is a well-known group of sculptures, one of which I am including today.
