Happy Birthday John Frederick Kensett!! American painter from 1816, he was trained by his father and an uncle. Kensett began as an apprentice to an engraver, but eventually he turned to painting after traveling to Europe. His work consisted of landscapes with a striking tonal quality exhibiting a quiet peaceful setting. His focus became a subtle, sensitive approach to outdoor light, leading the way for landscape artists to come. Perhaps the best exemplar of his work, Paradise Rock, Newport, is included here.
