Marisol

Happy Birthday Marisol!! Born Maria Sol Escobar, to Venezuelan parents in Paris, this sculptor spent most of her life going between Paris and Los Angeles.  Her work, generally considered pop art, is of a rather primitive nature, box-like figures out of wood and other found objects, and usually painted. These figures are regarded as three dimensional portraits, drawing an influence from Pre-Columbian artifacts. Claiming to have been born an artist, she continues to live and work in New York.
