Happy Birthday Ossip Zadkine!! Russian Jewish sculptor, born in 1890, Zadkine was educated in London before moving to Paris. He was a member of the Cubist group, but African influences are also apparent in his work. His most well-known sculpture, The Desroyed City, is located in Rotterdam (The Netherlands), created in tribute after seeing first hand the destruction of the city by Germany in WWII. The devastated figure reaches to the Heavens in obvious pain.
This year the town of Auvers-sur-Oise (where Van Gogh finished his life) welcomes the sculptures of O. Zadkine for the 50th birthday of the statue "Monument à Van Gogh".
