Happy Birthday Stanton MacDonald-Wright!! American born painter from 1890, MacDonald-Wright was an abstract painter and founder of the Synchromist Movement. He studied art in Paris and together with Morgan Russell, developed his Synchromist style, aimed at depicting emotion through color. The two artists created paintings consisting of layers of color with applications to music, space and abstraction. He was responsible for the first Modern Art exhibit in Los Angeles in 1915. Later MacDonald-Wright experimented with Synchromist figures. He also worked on public art projects such as murals and taught at UCLA. The painting below is oil paint on panel and titled The Music of Gershwin, 1983.
