Happy Birthday Ernest T Seton!! Born in 1860 in England (Scottish descent) and then immigrating to Canada with his family in 1860, Seton became a US citizen in the late 1800's. Wildlife artist, author naturalist and quite an outdoorsman. Seton was also a founder of the Boy Scouts of America. He studied art in England at the Royal Academy and later in Paris. He was commissioned in 1885 to do 1000 mammal drawings for a dictionary. His painting Triumph of the Wolves is included below.
Van Gogh's Ear is an in depth look at famous artists on their birthday. This is the second year a post is made each day about a famous artist, his/her art, interesting facts, personal experiences, etc. on their birthday. So, lend me your ear...
Blossoming Almond Branch in a Glass (1888)

One of my favorite still life subjects of Van Gogh, the cut branch in a glass, I ran across this one with the book behind creating a complicated compositional element. Note also the use of complementary colors, red and green, creating a vibration in the painting.
