Blossoming Almond Branch in a Glass (1888)
One of my favorite still life subjects of Van Gogh, the cut branch in a glass, I ran across this one with the book behind creating a complicated compositional element. Note also the use of complementary colors, red and green, creating a vibration in the painting.

Germain Boffrand

Happy Birthday Germain Boffrand!! French artist, born in 1667, Boffrand was a Rococo (Louis XV) decorator and architect. It is believed he alone solidified and popularized the interior and architectural style “rococo”. He was the son of an architect but first studied sculpture, later opening a practice in architecture and interior design. His own sons collaborated with him, but sadly both died young, before Boffrand. I am including an interior typical of his Rococo syle.
